Our Firm

Legal Experience and a Legacy of Service

For over 40 years, the firm now known as Immigration Law Plus has stood beside individuals and families across the greater Fairfax and DMV community as they navigated some of the most consequential moments of their lives. What began as a small general practice founded by two attorneys with very different specialties has grown, through four decades of steady work, into a firm devoted primarily to the practice of immigration law.

Our History

The Founding (1983)

Immigration Law Plus traces its roots to February 1, 1983, when Paul C. Kincheloe, Jr. and Barry A. Schneiderman opened the doors of Kincheloe & Schneiderman at 3923 University Drive in Fairfax, Virginia.

Both men came to the partnership already established in the Northern Virginia legal community. Paul, a 1967 graduate of the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, had begun his career with the firm of Hazel, Beckhorn and Hanes. Barry had entered private practice in Fairfax in 1976, following three years as an Attorney Adviser to the Board of Immigration Appeals at the U.S. Department of Justice.

The two founding partners worked side by side but built their practices in different directions. Paul focused primarily on commercial real estate, while Barry set out to be a general practitioner, handling a broad range of matters with a particular interest in immigration law.

Growth on University Drive (1980s–2005)

As the firm grew, it moved a short distance to 4084 University Drive, Suite 202, in Fairfax. It was here that Barry built out what would become the heart of the firm’s identity: a substantial criminal defense practice alongside an increasingly significant immigration practice, complemented by general practice matters. Paul continued to grow his commercial real estate work throughout this period, and the two partners’ complementary practices allowed the firm to serve clients across a wide range of legal needs.

A Shift in Focus (2005–2024)

At the end of 2005, Paul made the decision to devote his attention more fully to his commercial real estate ventures, gradually stepping back from the day-to-day practice of law, eventually moving to South Carolina in 2021. The firm carried on under the Kincheloe & Schneiderman name, relocating once more to 4010 University Drive, Suite 103, where it remained for nearly two decades.

During these years, Barry became the driving force behind the firm’s legal work, and his immigration practice flourished. He built a reputation both for his trial work in criminal court and for his advocacy before the Immigration Courts of the Executive Office for Immigration Review and taking on complex appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals — the very body where he had begun his career three decades earlier.

A New Chapter (2025-)

In 2025, the firm became Immigration Law Plus, a name reflecting what the practice had organically become over the prior twenty years: a firm built primarily around immigration law, supported by criminal defense and general practice services for the community it has always served.

That same year, the firm experienced two profound losses. Founding partner Paul C. Kincheloe, Jr. passed away on June 28, 2025, and founding partner Barry A. Schneiderman passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025. Their more than four decades of partnership laid the foundation for everything Immigration Law Plus continues to do today.

Family. Freedom. Future

Those three words describe what our clients are working toward: keeping families together, securing freedom from removal and detention, and building a future here. That is the work Paul and Barry started, and it remains ours.

Immigration Law Plus is proud to carry forward the principles and legacy they built the firm on. Under the continued leadership of the attorneys they mentored, the firm remains committed to providing the same high-quality, attentive, and personalized legal service that generations of clients have relied on since 1983.
