Esteban A. Aguilar Sr., Esq., is an accomplished and respected attorney with a legal career spanning over four decades.

Mr. Aguilar earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1978, after receiving a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at El Paso. Since being admitted to the State Bar of New Mexico in 1978, he passed the bar and was licensed in the State of Texas. After passing the New Mexico bar exam and the Texas Bar exam, Mr. Aguilar Sr. practiced for two years in El Paso, Texas.

In 1981, he became a Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senator Lloyd Bentsen (D. Tex.) in Washington, D.C. He returned to New Mexico in 1983.

He has been admitted to practice in various jurisdictions like the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, U.S. Circuit of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Aguilar has been a member of and involved in numerous professional associations, including the American Bar Association (ABA), State Bar of Texas, State Bar of New Mexico, New Mexico Trial Lawyer’s Association (NMTLA). He was inducted as a Fellow in the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers in 2004. He was a member of the ACTL State Committee and served as Chairman of the ACTL State Committee from 2014 to 2015.

Mr. Aguilar Sr. served as Treasurer and Secretary of the New Mexico Trial Lawyer’s Association before becoming President in 2007. He has been named as a Southwest Super Lawyer from 2008-2025.

He has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of New Mexico School of Law, teaching evidence and trial practice and is a past professor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA).

Mr. Aguilar has also been active in public service and was a Member of and Chairman of the New Mexico Municipal Boundary Commission.

Mr. Aguilar Sr. is an avid golfer and baseball fan. Back in the day he was active in Eastdale Little League and served in numerous positions.
